Happy New Year!
And
Welcome Aboard To Our New President Mr. Joe Coleman
From Our President In His Own Words
After a childhood as a Navy dependent moving back and forth across the country at least a dozen times, Joe Coleman finally settled in Jacksonville in 1975. He had his own marine construction company before beginning a 26-year career in facilities and construction management with Jacksonville University and the City of Jacksonville’s sports and entertainment facilities. Joe is now semi-retired and works part-time for a property management and development company in Jacksonville.
Joe’s first experience with wood boat restoration was as a teenager in 1970 when he and other members of a Navy sailing club restored a 1940-era 44-foot retired Naval Academy training yawl. Joe was introduced to Sunnyland by Guy Marvin after a chance meeting at a local boat show. After a lifetime of boating, Guy rekindled Joe’s love for wooden boats and encouraged him to restore his family’s 1955 Chris Craft Sportsman. Joe and Guy have since enjoyed establishing a SCAMPY program with AMI Kids Jacksonville.
In addition to boating, Joe and Ellen enjoy traveling and spending time with their two young grandchildren.
