On Friday September 24th, the Sunnyland Chapter held a lunch and boat cruise in the Port Saint Lucie area. The group met at Veterans Park around mid-day and gathered under the pavilion for a catered shrimp boil style lunch prior to launching the boats. The early day rainy weather provided an opportunity for folks to relax and catch up with others that they may have not seen in a while along with introducing and greeting several new members that were in attendance. Cloudy skies began to clear and the sun appeared just about the time the group had planned to launch their boats. Veterans Park is located right on the Saint Lucie River and has a large boardwalk/river walk, multiple boat ramps and plenty of parking, so launching went quickly.
The group headed north on the river at a leisurely pace to take in the sights along the way. There was no boat traffic to contend with which made the cruise that much more relaxing. Some parts of the river are undeveloped while other areas have short stretches of waterfront homes. The sky had completely cleared to make way for a sunny afternoon of boating on the river. The group eventually turned around near White City to head back to the park and load the boats back on the trailers. This turned out to be a fun, one day event enjoyed by all that participated. Thanks to Alan and Danielle Schilk and John Hugh for organizing the event.
