A Fun and Relaxing Day
By: Pete DeVito
On Friday June 25th, we had our first Sunnyland in person event since COVID hit. We had a wonderful cruise and picnic that brought out 62 people and 18 boats for a cruise on the Lake Dora chain. Our day started at 9am at Gilbert Park in Mount Dora where we launched the boats. The boaters had a nice relaxing cruise through the Dora canal on the way over to Hickory Point Recreational Park on big Lake Harris.
The water was calm and the weather just perfect for some of the smaller boats on the cruise. We had a mix of wood, fiberglass and aluminum antique boats that only entailed one breakdown on the trip. Once we arrived at Hickory Point just before noon, we headed off to the pavilion at the head of the docks. We arrived just in time to get ready for a fantastic barbeque lunch from Oakwood BarBQue arrange by Jack Bingham.
We could not have asked for a nicer day to get caught up with our friends and even make a few new ones. A big thanks to Jack Bingham and Alan Schilk for planning this beautiful event. Keep your eye out for our next upcoming event.
