Sunnyland Sheerline Editor
Sunnyland is looking for an Editor for the Chapter’s Sheerline magazine. Our current Editor, Kurt Rothe, has announced that he will be stepping down from those duties at the end of 2020 with the Winter issue that is printed in October. Kurt had previously served as Editor and after a break to restore several boats, graciously agreed to come back as Editor for a second time. The Sheerline magazine was twice awarded the ACBS publication of the year award under Kurt’s watch and the Sunnyland Chapter thanks Kurt for his excellent work over the years on the publication.
The magazine is published on a quarterly basis and several years ago the process for publishing and mailing was standardized and streamlined. The primary responsibility of the Editor is to gather content for publication. That content is sent to our printer who does the layout, printing and mailing. The Chapter has been working with the same printing company for many years and their staff works closely with the Editor and shares the same goal of publishing a consistently high quality magazine. This process allows the Editor to concentrate on the content and eliminates the time consuming layout process.
Kurt has agreed to assist with the transition and may occasionally continue to write an article for the magazine. There are also other Chapter members that continue to provide articles including covering boating events, restoration projects, technical articles, etc. The Editor has the freedom to write original articles or reprint past articles as needed or desired. Two assistant editors and a proof reader provide additional support. The advertising is handled by the Director of Advertising, Don Taylor, who does an excellent job of promoting and maintaining the accounts that provide much of the financial support for printing the magazine.
This volunteer position is ideal for a retired or semi-retired person and previous writing or editing experience would be helpful but is not necessary. Since the entire process can be done electronically there is no need to be a local year round resident. The best qualification is a passion for the hobby and the desire to share the knowledge and information with others. Feel free to contact Joe Coleman at 904-571-6132 if you have questions or want to discuss the position in more detail.
