ANOUNCING A SCAMPY MATCHING FUNDS DRIVE CHALLENGE

The last issue of the Sheerline outlined a fund drive for the long-term security of the SCAMPY Youth and Adult programs. The plan is designed to encourage members to donate either through contributions from an IRA, 401K plan, or simply appreciated stocks directly to SCAMPY. The advantages to the donor are twofold when the funds come from a retirement account that has accumulated tax free over the years. Each year there is a minimum draw required that is normally taxable. When donated directly to a 501c3 nonprofit like Sunnyland, these funds are not taxed. Additionally, your donation qualifies you for a tax deduction. Donating appreciated stocks lets you claim a tax deduction for their current value, even though you originally paid less for them. An initial donation of appreciated stocks has been made by Tom and Leah Felcher totaling $40500. Members are also being encouraged to remember the SCAMPY program in some way in their will.
To kick start this opportunity to secure the future of the SCAMPY programs, a Sunnyland couple has offered to personally match all such donations from now until March 30, 2026, to a maximum of $25,000. This is a private match; no funds come from either SCAMPY or the Sunnyland chapter. The chapter board is encouraging members to give serious thought to this effort to guarantee the long-term success of what has become a very valuable part of the Chapter’s mission.
